1141 Maple Street, in Fenwick, is a Designated Heritage building under the Ontario Heritage Act. It was designated in 2018 through By-law 2018. The building is a landmark and holds institutional value. The Quaker Meeting House originally served as a meeting place for the Society of Friends, also known as the Quakers, who are often considered some of the earliest settlers in the Pelham region.

  1. The Quaker Meeting House is a single-detached, one and a half story building that sits close to the property line on Maple Street. The building features a front gable roof with a smaller gable projecting from the front with small four-pane windows on either side. It has four eight-pane, double hung windows on either side, and three fenced in basement windows on either side. The exterior is wood clapboard painted white with green accents along the eaves, windows, door, and drainpipes. There is an old tin chimney pipe on the roof and a high stone foundation. The building is simple with high windows to minimize outside distraction. This style is representative of Quaker principles and the style of early meeting houses. Original features are believed to include the exterior wood cladding, windows and trim, interior wooden door, wooden floor planks and the wainscoting. The Town of Pelham acquired the property and in 1972, it became the home of the Niagara Model Railroad Club.

  2. The Quaker Meeting House continues to be the home of the club which hosts a large exhibit of miniature replicas, historical trains and relics of Pelham’s past. Funds for this project are granted by the Rual Ontario Development Program to celebrate Fenwick heritage.
